How I Go 7 Days Between Hair Washes

I’m almost a year into only washing my hair once a week, so I felt like it was time to finally share this goodness with the world. Because not having to deal with washing, drying, styling multiple times a week is kind of life changing. It would be a disservice not to tell you about it!

Before once a week, I really only washed my hair every 2-3 days. But I came across a facebook video from Jasmine Rae and then went deep-diving on her instagram stories. I watched a ton of videos and was sold on the process.

First up was how to wash my hair. I never really knew there was an ideal way to do that, but now I know. Long story short, I only really wash my scalp and don't scrub all of my hair. So your roots are getting cleaned in that process and you’re cleaning the oil and build up but not stripping your hair of the good stuff (check out this article about how oils are actually good for your hair). This has made a huge difference in my hair not being frizzy or dry. For conditioner, I apply that from mid-shaft to ends only. Go watch Jasmine’s instagram story highlight video on how to wash if you are a visual learner!

I thought I was doing great with one of my drugstore shampoos, but then I tried out this new Winter Blend Shampoo from Maple Holistics…and OMG. I didn’t know what I was missing out on. I would have to wash my hair about 3 times when I did wash it with my old shampoo, and I used a lot of product. The Maple Holistics one is super concentrated, so I’m using a fraction of the amount and it feels clean right away! I still shampoo twice just for good measure, but I’m using a lot less. And since switching I could probably go longer than a week between washes. I can wear my hair down all 7-8 days and it still looks really good! I was pulling it up on day 5 or 6 with the old shampoo I was using.

One more plug about the shampoo….it smells amazing, especially using it this time of year! And it’s free from sulfates, parabens, and other harmful chemicals. I was having a hard time finding a shampoo that checked all of those boxes and actually worked. Really glad I got a chance to try this one out!

Other things I’ve changed are my hair brushes. I now have one for brushing it when it’s wet and one for when it’s dry. I used to rarely brush my hair because for some reason I thought that would make it more oily?! I don't know. But now I brush morning and night with this brush.

Let’s not forget the other MVP - dry shampoo! I use it every day, before any oilyness even sets in. I love the Not Your Mother’s unscented dry shampoo, but this charcoal one from Hask is my new favorite after a friend recommended it to me! It smells amazing and works so good!!

Here is a photo of my hair last Tuesday morning after washing it the night before. I let it air dry for a while before bed and then used the hair dryer to make sure my roots and the crown of my head were dry. I find that is enough just to get some volume without having to take the time to dry the whole thing. I woke up and brushed it. No flat ironing, no anything else. It’s so shiny and smooth! Very much crediting my new shampoo for those 2 achievements.

And here is my hair one week later, the following Tuesday morning. So I guess that technically makes it day 8 hair? I curled it Thursday night and touched it up once on Saturday. Also brushed it and used dry shampoo daily. I could probably go another day or 2 before washing…not sure if I will or not yet! But I’m just so excited to still have my hair down and cute one week later!!

So that’s the basics of how I’m taking care of my hair lately. It really has been one of the best things I’ve done and changed in my routine lately, and I 100% recommend it to every woman!! If you’re currently an everyday washer, you can start out by going 2 days. And then just keep adding on a day at a time until you get to a week! Your hair can be trained…and it’s definitely easier than potty training a toddler, so there’s that. Let me know if you have any questions!! Or if you have any other hair tips and tricks I should try out. Cheers to good hair, ladies!
