Happy Friday, y’all! It may be a little too soon for this, but we can smell fall in the air here! And the break from the 100 degree temps the last few days has been amazing. We haven’t busted out a pumpkin spice latte yet, but maybe soon.
Today, we are featuring our friends over at Aaptiv for our Friday Favorites. As moms of active little ones, we both understand how challenging it can be to get in a workout most days; especially if those workouts involve going to an actual gym or class. But we also understand the importance of making time to take care of ourselves. That’s where Aaptiv comes in! We were thrilled at the chance to give their workouts a try!
Aaptiv is an app-based fitness program making your workouts accessible anytime, anywhere. Aaptiv offers a variety of workouts from strength training, to yoga, cardio, and even marathon training. With workouts ranging from 7-30 minutes, busy moms have a seemingly endless variety of workouts to choose from. Gone are the days of starting a “quick workout” only to realize that you’re not sure how to best maximize your (limited) time (you know, in between kids’ naps or the length of their favorite Netflix show); their certified trainers offer step-by-step audio instruction with perfect playlists to accompany each workout. Aaptiv recently launched a workout program geared towards expectant moms and new moms, and we were excited to jump in and try out these workouts that were tailored specifically to our season of life!
Aaptiv recruited top-tier talent to lead the design and development of the maternity program, including Kira Kohrherr of FitBump, yoga guru and author, Kristin McGee, and other expert Aaptiv trainers who are trained and certified in prenatal and postnatal exercise. Early in May, they launched stroller workouts and first trimester workouts, second trimester workouts launched June 1st, and third trimester workouts hit the app in July. And they plan to launch more postnatal workouts soon, which will be great for me in a few months once baby girl gets here!
Each week of the maternity program includes both strength and cardio exercises specifically designed to prepare a woman’s body for birth. So, not only does Aaptiv have your back from that positive test to D-day, but they’re right there to help you along in your fitness goals after baby as well (after you’re cleared by your physician, of course).
Aaptiv has tailored their maternity program to include four different workouts to choose from for each week of pregnancy. I love that it’s broken down this way so I’m not wasting time googling what workouts are good for whatever week I’m in. Since I am in my second trimester (26 weeks on Sunday), I jumped around to different weeks and exercises so that I could get the full experience! I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of workouts offered to expectant moms; there are HIIT exercises, strength training (full body, upper body, and lower body), treadmill workouts, outdoor running (not going to lie, I didn’t give these a whirl. Why, you ask? Three words; summer in Louisiana), elliptical workouts, and prenatal yoga. I was a huge fan of the elliptical workouts and the strength training!
About three weeks ago, I started having a lot of lower back and hip pain, making it difficult to complete workouts. During a visit to my chiropractor to adjust my back and relieve some of the pain, he recommended that I try out prenatal yoga since its stretching and low impact nature would be good for my lower back. I had never done a single yoga pose and going to a yoga class just wasn’t in the cards, but I knew I needed to keep exercising and I also needed to be gentle on my back. I immediately remembered seeing the maternity yoga workouts in Aaptiv, so I gave it a try later that day. The trainer gave step-by-step instructions making it easy for a newbie to follow along with, and I was able to get in a workout that didn’t add pain to my back.
Whether you’re a mom-to-be, new mom, seasoned mom, stay-at-home mom, working mom, etc., Aaptiv
will work with whatever season of life you find yourself in. With programs as low as $8.33 per month, Aaptiv fits in to most any budget as well. Definitely way cheaper than that gym membership most of us never actually use 😉 You can also get a FREE seven day trial upon sign-up
! Hannah is giving the stroller workouts a try, so she will be able to give some insight into those soon! If you have any questions about our experience with Aaptiv
, please don’t hesitate to ask!
Before we end our post today, we have to take a moment and ask you to join us in praying for those in the path of Hurricane Irma (and the other two lingering out there right now), and our friends over in Texas (and southwest Louisiana) who are still dealing with the aftermath of Harvey (check out our post from last week
on ways you can help).
**Aaptiv certified trainers are not physicians, so be sure to check with your doctor before starting a new workout routine during pregnancy.
