Good Monday morning everyone! I hope everyone had a great weekend. Ours was pretty low key with lots of family time and watching LSU in the College World Series (I’ve learned to embrace and cheer for LSU as my SEC West team, but no worries UGA is still number one in my heart ;)). This week, we’ve got a full week of VBS at our church and lots of pool time too as long as we can get a break from the rain around here!
Today, I wanted to share some of our most favorite children’s books. We have shelves and bins full of books, but Copeland and Atlee definitely have their favorites that they will always choose again and again.
We absolutely love this book! The illustrations are gorgeous, but most importantly, it invites children to understand for themselves that Jesus is the star and the center of God’s great plan of salvation and His “never stopping, never giving up, always and forever love” for us. I have found Copeland “reading” it to Atlee on a couple occasions and telling him how much Jesus loves him; queue this mama’s heart exploding!
I had never heard of this book series until Atlee’s godmother got him this book for his birthday. It’s full of little dots to poke which helps with little ones’ fine motor skills, as well as their counting skills. Atlee usually just pokes all of the dots while Copeland counts them out and sings the Old MacDonald song. There are lots of books in the Poke-A-Dot series and I definitely recommend them for your little ones. It holds my boys’ attention for a solid twenty minutes, which is forever in tiny human world.
Dragons Love Tacos is a cute, silly, beautifully illustrated book. There’s no underlying message in it, just that dragons love tacos and parties(who doesn’t). These are the funniest, friendliest looking dragons you could imagine, all of whom just LOVE tacos and just LOVE parties of any kind, just combine the two (into a taco party), and you’re looking at some super happy dragons! Except don’t give them any spicy salsa since we’re all aware of what dragons are known for, and even the tiniest bit of spicy salsa would be like putting a match to a… uh-oh! Definitely a cute book to have on the shelf!
Copeland is obsessed with cars, trucks, and all construction equipment so it’s easy to understand why this is a go to book for our family. One by one, each piece of construction equipment finishes their job for the day and lies down for a night of rest so that they’re ready for another day of construction play. Copeland loves telling each thing goodnight and then tells us what each of them had done at the construction site that day. The illustrations are also eye-catching too making this a fun book for everyone.
This is one of the first books that we ever read to Copeland and we’ve read it so much in the last three years that I have the entire thing memorized. Both boys love the pictures in this book as well as the catchy rhyme. I love that this book teaches kids that they’re valuable no matter their size and to be kind to everyone because you never know when you may need help one day. Every time a new book is added to the Little Blue Truck series we scoop it up.
We have several of the Baby Lit Books and I love how they introduce children to classic literature. The boys really love the Jungle Book and Huck Finn, but there are many classics in the Baby Lit series like Moby Dick, Little Women, Pride and Prejudice, and lots more! My favorite part of these books is the illustrations. So pretty!
Do your kids like reading with you? What are some of your kids’ favorite books?
